We’ve had an amazing response to our Race Season Ready Series so far!  It’s clear we have quite a few runners and fitness minded folks in our community. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️As fellow running enthusiasts, we understand the thrill of race season and the importance of staying injury-free. Today we will dive into 3 foot injuries you’ve been asking about the most! Let’s talk about warning signs and how to prevent them so we can all keep chasing those finish lines together!

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot, connecting your heel bone to your toes.

Warning Signs: Sharp pain in the heel or arch of the foot, especially in the morning or after long periods of standing. Swelling and tenderness in the heel area.

Prevention Tips: Wear supportive shoes with good arch support.  Stretch your calves and feet regularly.  Avoid running on hard surfaces.

When to call us: If you experience persistent heel pain that doesn’t improve with rest and home treatments, it’s time to contact one of our doctors for a professional evaluation.

Stress Fractures

Stress fractures are tiny cracks in a bone, often caused by repetitive force or overuse, common in the metatarsal bones of the foot.

Warning Signs: Pain that worsens with activity and improves with rest.  Swelling and tenderness around the affected area.

Prevention Tips: Gradually increase your training intensity.  Ensure proper footwear with adequate cushioning.  Incorporate cross-training to reduce repetitive stress on your feet.

When to call us: If you notice persistent pain and swelling that doesn’t subside with rest, it’s time to give us a call!

Blisters

Blisters are fluid-filled pockets that form on the skin due to friction, often occurring on the feet during long runs.

Warning Signs: Red, tender areas on the skin that may develop into raised blisters.  Pain and discomfort while walking or running.

Prevention Tips: Wear moisture-wicking socks to keep your feet dry.  Ensure your shoes fit properly and are broken in before long runs. Apply blister prevention products like moleskin or blister pads.
